EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT TEACHING... (New Teacher Orientation)

What the teacher does on the first days of school will determine the teacher's success or failure for the rest of the school year. This course will provide instruction in classroom and teacher effectiveness and will discuss the philosophy, mission, and programs of the Leyden High Schools. The purpose of this program is to reduce the intensity of transition into teaching at Leyden and improve teaching effectiveness.

• How you can be a happy first year teacher.
• How to help all students succeed.
• How to dress for success.
• How to invite students to learn.
• How to increase positive student behavior.
• How to have your classroom ready.
• How to introduce yourself to your class.
• How to arrange and assign seats.
• How to post your assignments.

• When and how to take attendance.
• How to maintain an effective gradebook.
• How to have an effective discipline plan.
• How to have students follow classroom procedures.
• How to increase students' learning and achievement.
• How to get your students to do their assignments.
• How to get your students to pass their tests.
• How to get your students to work cooperatively.
• How to achieve happiness and success as a teacher.
Prerequisite:
Teachers new to Leyden and those that have recently been hired but have not attended this workhop
