On Saturday, May 17, the yearlong celebration of Leyden High School District 212’s 100th Anniversary continues with its final event, a community picnic on the grounds of East Leyden. The entire community is invited to this free event featuring a cookout and plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy.
This semester, summatives will take place over the last three days of student attendance. This ensures that all students benefit from a maximum of three summatives in one day. Please see the schedules below and note: May 14 is an in-service schedule starting at 8:50 a.m., however, May 21 will be a Wednesday that runs on a regular schedule, with the school day starting at 7:35 a.m. Grab and go lunches will be provided May 22 and 23.
West 40 Regional Office of Education recognized four graduating seniors with a School Citizen of the Year Award (SCOTY). From East, Nicole Cychosz and Josh Walter, and from West, Stephanie Morales Bautista and Piotr Wojtasik, each earned this special distinction for their efforts as role models and good school citizens.
Four summer sessions of the driver education behind-the-wheel program will be held at East Leyden, with registration opening on April 1.
This month's One Amazing Story features the legacy of Leyden's music program, which has shaped students into skilled musicians who go on to pursue professional careers in performance, education, and the arts.
Enrollment for the 2025-26 school year is open and required for every student entering or returning to Leyden next school year. All current parents/guardians have received a special access code (snapcode) by email and U.S. mail to use to begin the enrollment process.
The Golden Apple Foundation announced Leyden teacher Leslie Lopez as a 2025 finalist for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. Lopez is one of 30 finalists at the high school level, out of 470 nominations.
Students in the Leyden Plumbers Bridge Program successfully completed its requirements and graduated, with seven students receiving letters of intent to hire from local plumbing companies. Successful students join the Plumbers Local 130 union, receive postsecondary education at no cost, and earn more than $50/hour upon completing their apprenticeship.
