Mr. Bill Mitchell

I have been a counselor at East Leyden High School since 2004.

I sponsor East Leyden Student Council, direct Leyden theatrical productions, and sponsor Teatro Leyden, Leyden Players, and International Thespian Society.  I am also a Leyden Representative for IFT Local 571.  Previously, I have served as Fern Awards sponsor, IHSA Group Interpretation & IHSA Contest Play Director, Musical Director, Production Assistant, Assistant Chess Coach, and Assistant Speech Coach.

Prior to coming to Leyden, I served a Teaching Assistantship in the School of Art at Northern Illinois University where I taught art history and foundations drawing.  I have also been a counselor at Genoa-Kingston High School (2002-2004), a social studies and art teacher at Prairie Ridge High School (1997-2001), and a social studies teacher at Crystal Lake Central High School (1989-1997).  I have coached boys and girls tennis, boys soccer, and speech team, and I have sponsored yearbook and freshman class.

Outside of school, I spend my time restoring my 113-year old Victorian house, traveling, and eating Portillo's hot dogs.
