    HAPPENING THIS WEEK
    Wednesday, 1/16
    Taste of East - 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

    STRIVE FOR 95
This semester we will continue our focus on chronic absenteeism. Chronic absenteeism is considered missing 10% or more of the school year and includes excused and unexcused absences. Missing just 4 days in the semester can lead to your child being considered chronically absent. Missing two class periods during a school day counts as a Half-day Absent and missing three or more periods counts as a Full-day Absent. Excused and Unexcused Absences count when calculating a student’s attendance rate. We want to make sure you are informed on your child’s attendance throughout the year. You will receive notification when your student is at risk of being chronically absent for the school year. Your child’s attendance rate does not reset at the semester. Each progress report, you will receive an update on your child’s attendance rate. We are asking for all students to strive for 95% attendance this year.

    Attendance Rates:
Exceptional Attendance - 97% or better
    On Track Attendance - 95-96%
    At Risk Attendance - 90-94%
    Chronic Absenteeism - 85-89%
Severe Absenteeism - less than 85%

W każdym sprawozdaniu o ocenach dziecka, tzw. “progress report”, będziecie Państwo otrzymywać informacje o procentowej frekwencji ucznia.
Życzylibyśmy sobie, aby wszyscy nasi uczniowie byli w stanie utrzymać frekwencję na poziomie 95%.

    Skala oceniania frekwencji:
Ponadprzeciętna frekwencja - 97% albo wyżej
    Wymagana frekwencja - 95-96%
    Zagrożona frekwencja - 90-94%
    Przewlekla absencja - 85-89%
    Ciężka absencja - poniżej 85%

    BUS SCHEDULING DURING FINAL EXAMS
To accommodate large groups of students arriving/leaving school at the same time, for example - on testing days - Leyden provides extra buses on some of our busiest routes to avoid overcrowding. If your child's bus seems overcrowded, please let us know so we can make note of it for other busy days with special schedules.

RAILWAY CROSSING - DID YOU KNOW?
Ever wonder how railway crossings on roadways are activated? As a train approaches a crossing, it sets off a sensor built into the track, which prompts the rail crossing lights to flash. When an intersection is nearby (such as on 25th Avenue and Belmont Ave), a green light activates for vehicles closest to the tracks, allowing these vehicles to safely clear out of the vicinity of the rail crossing. The rail crossing lights flash for a minimum 24 seconds before the railway gate slowly lowers. The gate is completely closed five seconds before the train arrives.

    Veterans Day Concert - 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm - East Auditorium g

It is an honor and privilege to welcome back two esteemed Leyden alums and recently published authors, Ned Colletti (Class of 1972) and Jonathan Cain (Class of 1968). They'll be joining us side by side in our new West Leyden High School Library on November 12 @ 6:30 pm for a community event. They are speaking to ALL students in both high schools during the day.

There will be time for a book signing and an opportunity to purchase their books as well. All proceeds from the book sales will benefit the Leyden Foundation. Click here for evening event flyer.

After reading both books, I can assure you that these books share universal themes.

    • Both give the reader a sense that tenacity is essential for success.
    • Living out your dreams is possible.
    • Remembering where you came from and using that to ground your decisions as you journey (no pun intended) through life makes all the difference.
    • Lastly, having supports like family and friends are paramount to being able to actualize your true potential.

     VETERANS DAY CEREMONY
Leyden will pay tribute to our Home Town Heroes during our annual Veterans Day Ceremony. This one-hour musical tribute honoring our military, police, firefighters, and their families is at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 8 in the East Leyden Auditorium. Come out and enjoy a fantastic and free tribute to the hometown heroes among us.
