    VIRTUAL GRADUATION

In light of Governor Pritzker's recent announcements of a phased plan to re-open Illinois amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made a decision to hold a virtual graduation.  We understand that this cannot replicate a traditional in-person graduation, however, we remain committed to recognizing and celebrating every graduating senior while ensuring the health and safety of the Leyden community.

The East Leyden 2020 Virtual Graduation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2020. The virtual graduation will closely follow our traditional program which includes student speeches, commencement remarks from the superintendent, Board of Education, and administration and the reading of our graduates' names.  We are excited to announce that as part of this unique ceremony we will have a special guest speaker, former Chicago Bear great Charles “Peanut” Tillman!

As a way to celebrate the Class of 2020, we would love to see you and your student post pictures in their cap and gown and a video of them throwing their cap at the end of the virtual ceremony on June 30!  Please share your pictures on our District Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages @leydenpride212 using the hashtags: #leydenpride and #LeydenClassof2020

You and your student can also help us celebrate the Class of 2020 by customizing your Facebook profile photo with a “Congratulations 2020 Leyden Grads” or “Proud 2020 Leyden Grad” Facebook frame. You can find the Facebook frame by searching #leydenpride.

    SENIOR PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF

Next week you will receive a letter in the mail and students will receive an email regarding senior pick up and drop off. Every student will be assigned a time and date. At that time students will be able to pick up cap and gown, any supplies left at school, and turn in school property including textbooks and Chromebooks.

In addition, this letter will contain information regarding outstanding fines for your student. The total amount includes current material/items that your student may still have in his/her possession. Once those items are returned on the specified day, you do not have to pay for those items. If you choose to pay these fines online through MySchoolBucks, please make sure to do it only for the items that cannot be returned or fines that are outstanding.

    EDUCATION ACADEMY SIGNING DAY

As you know today is the last day of Senior attendance.  This is a special day for many of our students and especially special for our Seniors who have completed the Leyden’s Educator Prep Sequence over the past four years. These students have shown hard work, dedication, and passion in the field of education.  From running our preschool to writing and teaching lessons at our partner schools our students have had authentic experiences that solidify post-secondary plans. Each of these students has signed a pledge to teach!  Please join us in welcoming the next generation of educators!

    LPU CANCELLATION
Using current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois government mandate on large gatherings, Leyden staff has made the difficult decision to cancel the 4th Annual Leyden Parent University event that was to take place on Saturday, April 25, 2020. Due to difficulty in rescheduling the event for parent attendees, 24 presenters, and the Leyden staff, we look forward to resuming Leyden Parent University in April 2021. We will plan for it to be the biggest and best LPU yet!

Thank you for your understanding. Please stay healthy and safe!

~Dawn Erickson, Department Chair of Student Services, East
~Frank Holthouse, Director of Careers and Community Outreach
~Kato Gupta, Department Chair of Student Services, West
