Student Teachers, Observers, Interns, Volunteers

Student Teaching & Intern Process

To be considered for a student teaching or internship placement at Leyden High Schools, all prospective candidates must complete an online application. Applications will only be reviewed once the full application is submitted which includes the following required documents:

  • Official request letter from the university’s student teaching or internship coordinator, specifying the subject area and preferred placement dates.
    Note: This letter must be printed on official university letterhead.

  • Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV)

  • Official transcripts for all relevant degrees
    Example: Candidates enrolled in a Master’s program must provide transcripts for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.


Requirements for Accepted Student Teachers/Interns

Once accepted, candidates must complete the following Leyden High School District 212 requirements:

  • Fingerprint-based background check, conducted by Leyden High School District 212

  • Fitness Certification Form, including a Tuberculin (TB) test, administered by a licensed medical professional within the past 90 days

  • Completion of assigned learning modules through Vector Solutions (Leyden’s training partner)


Application Deadlines

  • Spring Semester: Priority consideration will be given to applications submitted by September 15th

  • Fall Semester: Priority consideration will be given to applications submitted by March 15th

Please note: Deadlines are subject to change annually. The number of accepted student teachers and interns varies based on factors such as the availability of cooperating teachers and program needs.


Placement Timeline

All applications will be collected through the respective priority deadlines. Afterward, submitted applications will be reviewed, and selected candidates will be invited to participate in a virtual interview. Final placement decisions will be made following the interview process.

Applications received after the priority deadlines will still be accepted and reviewed on a space-available basis, depending on placement capacity and availability of cooperating teachers.

Observer/Clinical/Field Experience Process

Observation/Clinical/Field Experience provides future educators the opportunity to witness real life application of their classroom material.  If you wish to request observation hours at Leyden High Schools District 212, please reach out to the applicable Department Chair. Volunteer Process

Volunteers are a wonderful asset to the school community. They can provide assistance to students through chaperoning as well as providing students assistance with their academics and extracurricular activities. Volunteers play an important role in supporting our students and the school community. A volunteer is anyone who spends a prolonged period of time in contact with our students. Leyden High Schools maintains a Volunteer List with all approved volunteers. This list allows other departments to reach out with additional opportunities at Leyden.
