Who is eligible for Seniors Plus?

Posted by:

Whether you fell short of passing just a few classes or circumstances led to withdrawing or dropping out early, Seniors Plus offers you an alternative path to earning your Leyden diploma.  This program serves all Leyden students currently living in the district, ages 18-21.  If you are eligible for the program, this is a great alternative to a GED.

You must be able to commit to attending the program every day, as daily attendance is required.  The session time is from 8am - 1pm.

*Students must stay for a minimum of 3 hours daily. Once enrolled in the program you can speak with the teacher to arrange a daily schedule.

How do I register for Seniors Plus?

Posted by:

Contact the Site Coordinator, Mrs. Shannon Bidlo, to discuss if this program is the right fit for you.  If it's determined the program is a good fit, you must follow the same registration process as all Leyden students, including pre-enrollment information and providing proofs of district residency with the Assistant Principal's office.   All students must complete enrollment online once residency has been verified.

For specific questions regarding registration, contact the Assistant Principal's office at either East or West Leyden:

West Leyden High School:

    847-451-3121

East Leyden High School:

    847-451-3025

You may also visit Leyden District 212's "Registration" page for more information.

Can I work on the classes from home?

Posted by:

No, students are not allowed to work from home, as Seniors Plus is grant-funded program based on daily attendance rates.  Daily attendance is required. Completing the required classes at home is not currently an option.

Do I need any vaccinations to enroll in Seniors Plus?

Posted by:

Yes.  Since many students were freshman prior to certain vaccinations being required, you will need to be up-to-date on these in order to be allowed in the school building.  Most students will need to get the TdaP and Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV4) vaccines.  Please contact the Site Coordinator for more information on required health updates.

Is there a fee for Seniors Plus?

Posted by:

The cost for Seniors Plus is Leyden's annual student registration fee of $190.00.  This is the fee that all students pay who attend Leyden District 212. Students may qualify for a fee waiver upon completing the "Application for Leyden District 212 Fee Waiver" and providing complete and accurate income documentation.  Questions regarding the fee waiver should be directed to the Assistant Principal's office at either East or West Leyden:

West Leyden High School:

    847-451-3121

East Leyden High School:

    847-451-3025

How long will it take for me to complete my diploma?

Posted by:

It depends on the number of classes you have remaining and your effort while in class.  We estimate that it should take a student approximately 4-5 weeks to complete one class; this time could be longer for some classes such as math and english.  We base this time on the assumption that a student is working 3 hours per day, 5 days per week during regular school attendance days.  You will take classes 1-2 at a time until you have completed all required classes.  Seniors Plus provides classroom time during the regular school year and during both summer school sessions.
