Dance

Orchesis is an extracurricular student dance group offered by the Leyden High School Fine Arts Department. It is open to students across the district, grades 9-12. Students have the opportunity to learn various styles including modern, contemporary, bachata, authentic jazz, k-pop, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, and cultural dance forms. Orchesis is a great opportunity to develop their technical skills, performance skills, learn how to produce original choreographies, expand aesthetic values, and enhance expressive and creative abilities. We also attend dance festivals, host guest instructors, and go on field trips to see professional dance performances.

We meet alternating Mondays @ 3:10pm at East and West .

Giordano Choreography Project 
A professional dancer, Analysse Vance, from the Giordano Dance Company in Chicago is coming to Leyden to teach an original choreography. We will perform at Barrington High School on Saturday January 18th alongside the 14 other high school Orchesis troupes that are participating in the project. All are welcome to participate, you just need to attend the first meeting on Sept 9th and commit to learning and performing. 

IHSDF Workshop
Saturday Oct 5th we are going on a field trip to an all-day dance workshop. Take classes in a wide variety of dance styles, meet other high school dancers, and see a professional dance company performance. 

Student Choreography Competition 
If you are creative get some friends together and create your own choreography for the Illinois High School Choreography Competition!  

Leyden Fine Arts Dance Showcase
Create your own choreography to showcase on stage here at Leyden! Auditions are the last week of February and the show is Saturday May 5th. All styles of dance are welcome.
