Injury Reporting
Promptly reporting injuries is one of the most important steps in keeping student-athletes healthy and safe. Student-athletes should notify the athletic trainer as soon as possible if they experience pain, an injury, or any symptoms that affect their ability to participate. Early evaluation and treatment can help prevent minor injuries from becoming more serious, support a safe and timely return to activity, and may even help avoid unnecessary trips to the doctor's office. Open communication between student-athletes, parents, coaches, and the athletic training staff is essential to providing the best possible care.
Physician Clearance Policy
Per Leyden Athletics Department policy, any student-athlete who is evaluated or treated by a physician for an orthopedic injury, concussion or other neurocognitive injury, or an illness that results in missed athletic participation must provide written documentation from the treating physician before returning to sports. The documentation must clearly state either that the student-athlete is cleared for participation or outline any activity restrictions or limitations.
Athletic trainers cannot clear a student-athlete to return to participation without the appropriate documentation from the treating physician.
