Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, Leyden High School District 212 became a fully 1:1 district when we issued a Google Chromebook to almost all of our 3,400 students. The past three summers we hosted a 1:1 Summer Symposium that highlighted the evolution of digital tools in a 1:1 school and are happy to host the event again. However, we decided to undergo a rebranding. Although technology infuses just about everything we do, we want to make sure that our symposium more accurately reflects what we value. So, for 2016, we are broadening our lens to highlight any and all "Innovative Teaching and Learning," which may or may not include a technology-specific component, and now hosting the 3-day Innovative Teaching & Learning Symposium. There will still be plenty of sessions and resources shared for those wanting to learn about implementing 1:1, but now there is a whole lot more.
Our symposium consists of keynote and spotlight speakers, breakout sessions, and activities tailored to the different stakeholders that make up a school district. We share the Leyden story, the behind-the-scenes operations of supporting a digital and innovative teaching and learning environment, provide guidance for schools and districts considering going 1:1, and have lots of practical sessions demonstrating effective ways to integrate technology and innovation into daily lesson plans and projects. We encourage board members, district administrators, building administrators, teachers, technology coordinators, and technology staff to attend.
Leyden High School District 212 consists of two high schools, East and West Leyden, and is located right next to O'Hare airport in Illinois. We serve the communities of Franklin Park, Leyden Township, Melrose Park, Northlake, River Grove, Rosemont, and Schiller Park.
The cost of the symposium will be $212 per person with a cap of 425 total participants. After paying our costs for this event, which does not include paying any Leyden administrators, all of the money goes directly to our Leyden students to subsidize the cost of ACT prep classes, AP exams, and certifications in various areas.
