Mr. Ruairi Patrick O'Connor
Education
My name is Ruairi (Rory) Patrick O’Connor, and I am a licensed special education teacher at East Leyden High School. Currently, I am co-teaching Digital Literacy with Sally Lakdawala. I have a passion for educating and coaching young adults. I am the head varsity baseball coach and assistant girls' tennis coach. I graduated from Florida State University in May 2009 with a bachelor of art in English literature. I completed my Master's in Special Education at Dominican University in December 2016.
Background
I grew up the youngest of five boys in River Forest, IL, and graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School. I have always been passionate about sports and competition. I received a scholarship to play baseball at Florida State University where I was a four-year varsity letter winner and team captain my senior year.
Philosophy
I will manage the classroom by consistently modeling ideal behavior, developing positively stated classroom rules, and creating a culture of success for ALL students. Every student in my classroom will be safe, engaged, and treated with respect. Through care and empathy, my students will evolve socially and emotionally. I am committed to helping each individual achieve their educational and social goals.
Personal
I am married to the most wonderful woman on Earth. We have two great dogs that we love spending time with. We enjoy gardening, painting, dancing, playing cards, and board games in our free time. I also read, watch TV/movies, and playing sports whenever I can.
