    Artists Reception 6-8PM

    Tuesday & Wednesday, December 11-12, 2018

    7:30 AM to 2:30 PM

    Nardini Library

We will feature artwork from first-semester art classes and our partner schools’ 8th-grade artists’ works. There will be paintings, drawings, photographs, graphic design, ceramics, and sculptures. A jury will be choosing Leyden Art Award Winners that will be revealed at the Monday night reception. The reception will also include light refreshments for the artists and the guests. The show will be in a new location this year, due to the construction happening at East Leyden. We are excited about trying out the new venue as it's bigger and it will give us more options for displaying with the artwork.

COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2018 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The principal, Mr. Markey, of East Leyden High School announced today that Gerardo Porras has been named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scores of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQTⓇ)

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable natural resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
