Ms. Abby Kott

Abby Kott joined the Leyden family in 2018 and is proud to be an eagle! As the assistant director of bands, she works with the concert bands, jazz bands, marching band, basketball band, drum club, and orchestra.

In the spring of 2018, she graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received a bachelor's degree in music education, where she attended on a full four-year academic scholarship and graduated with highest honors as a Bronze Tablet Scholar. 

At Illinois, Ms. Kott has received awards and scholarships for her musical and academic success. She is a recipient of the coveted Presser Scholar Award, as well as the Thomas J. Smith Scholarship, Woodwind Division Achievement Award, the Guy M. Duker Symphonic Band Award, the G. Jean Sutter Music Education Scholarship, and the "Outstanding Graduating Senior in Instrumental Music Education" Award.

As a musician, she performed regularly in the saxophone section in the UI Wind Symphony, the premiere ensemble of the University of Illinois band program. She has also performed with the Wind Orchestra, Philharmonia, and the Marching Illini. She previously was the alto saxophonist of the Graduate Quartet during her junior year, as well as the soprano saxophonist of the Undergraduate Quartet. She has been privileged to participate in masterclasses given by the 4 & 4 saxophone quartet and Jean-Michele Goury. 

Devoted to music education, she is affiliated with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the National Band Association (NBA), where she served on the executive board for both of the organizations during her undergraduate career. Ms. Kott is excited to inspire others through music!
