Mrs. Marie Miller

Hi there!  I am thrilled to be a member of the Family & Consumer Sciences Department at West Leyden High School!  I began teaching in 2012 and joined the Leyden Team in the fall of 2020 and couldn't be more excited to be an Eagle!  Throughout my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of different subjects that span over the Family & Consumer Sciences curriculum but am looking forward to getting back to my roots in the culinary classroom with Culinary Basics and trying new courses such as Pastry Chef and Taste of Travel as well!

I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2010 where I also played basketball during my four years as a Panther and loved every second of it!  I have learned some of my greatest lessons from playing and coaching sports and I look forward to bringing those things along with me during my career at Leyden.  I have completed my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction through Concodia University as well as my LBS1 Certification through St. Francis University.  I love to collaborate and work with other subjects throughout the builidng in order to provide a well rounded and memorable experience for my students! The more students and staff that I can work with, the better!  I love meeting new people and making new relationships everywehre I go because it helps me truly get to know the people and the place I work!

When we are not in school I love to travel and spend as much time as I can with my husband Dan, our growing family (including my dog Sammie) and friends!  Because I spend so much time cooking and cleaning in the classroom, I enjoy venturing out to new places to eat, but I will also never turn down an offer for Portillo's or Taco Bell!  In the summertime you can find me cheering "Go Cubs Go!" in The Friendly Confines as much as I can (even when we don't have much to cheer about...) and soaking up the sun out and about playing my favorite kind of music, which is everything from Broadway to Hip-Hop to Country!

I look forward to meeting you either in my classroom or in the building and always have my door open so please do not hesitate to stop by or contact me if you need anything!  I am excited for a great school year and GO EAGLES!!
