Education

Hi my name is Sevdije Perezic and I am a mathematics teacher at West Leyden High School. I graduated from Elmhurst University with a bachelor's of science in Mathematics- Secondary Education and a minor in Computer Science. As a first generation college graduate, I have a passion in creating worthwhile activities and events that will encourage or inspire ALL students to pursue careers in STEM as well. I was a student teacher at West Leyden and I am so grateful to be a full time teacher now!

Philosophy

I believe that it is important for diversity, discipline, and dedication to be present in the classroom so that all students can have an equal opportunity to be successful. I am a strong believer that if there is diversity in the classroom, students will be more likely to be engaged and feel welcomed when they see that education is being integrated into their own culture. I hold discipline to be a strong attribute in the learning community because discipline is not only for the students but for myself as well. In mathematics, I want my students to implement self discipline by not fearing a difficult math problem but embracing the challenge by trying multiple strategies to solve it and discuss it with their peers to figure it out. I am a firm believer that with dedication, students will see themselves flourish in mathematics. With the perseverance to learn abstract concepts of mathematics, students will be able to take the concepts and skills from the classroom and apply it to any aspect of their life. With an embrace for diversity, a respect for discipline, and a heart filled with dedication, nothing will stop my students from being successful in academia and all aspects of life

Personal

My family are Albanian immigrants from Montenegro who came to America for a better life filled with opportunities. I always wanted to be a math teacher because numbers are always the same in every language! I have a passion for traveling, trying new foods, yoga, sports, and binge watching TV shows.
