TEACHING AT LEYDEN:
I started at Leyden in 2001 teaching Physical Education and Health. During my time here I have taught a number of different courses as well as developed new courses that did not exist when I began here. Throughout my career I have taught and continue to teach all 4 grade levels, but have worked with more freshman students than any other level. I truly enjoy acclimating our new students to the building, to high school, and to the many wonderful options Leyden offers.
EXTRACURRICULAR AT LEYDEN:
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I ran the Leyden Sports Academy for 10 years, and am currently working with the West Suburban Conference leadership team. This school leadership program fosters student level leadership allowing students to develop and implement the changes they want to see in their school. I have also spent the last 20 years coaching girls track and cross country.
PHILOSOPHY:
I have a true passion for personal fitness as well as helping kids learn to enjoy exercise and it's many benefits. Getting and staying fit is a commitment and should be fun. I believe in building knowledge as well as confidence, independence, leadership, and life skills in all my students and athletes. I am a BIG advocate for mental health and work hard to help our students understand there is no shame in either the struggle, or in needing help. I continually strive to be an approachable teacher who is always willing to help whether you are a student on my roster or not.
I am extremely excited for this in-person school year to begin!
