Speech and Drama Team offers a positive, friendly environment for students to develop their talents and sharpen their skills in public speaking and acting techniques and to participate in competitions and build confidence. Students are judged against other competitors at tournaments, competing for a chance to perform in the final round of the tournament.Finalists get trophies and medals for their performances.Speech and Drama (officially and boringly called "Individual Events" by the Illinois High School Association) consists of 14 different events. Team members may participate one or two events. Most first-year team members participate in one for the first few tournaments.Participants may also be eligible for membership in the National Speech and Debate Association, a national honor society.
