East Leyden Construction Benefits

  • East Leyden Outside Rendering

The benefits of the project at East Leyden will include:

    • A new safe and secure main student entrance with a dedicated bus lane.  This new entrance and bus lane will be located where the former Dodge Field stadium sat.  This will allow students to move safely and easily between buses and the school entrance.

    • Inside this new entrance will sit an expansive new cafeteria and student commons area.  This new cafeteria will allow for up to 650 students at any given time, allowing us to reduce the number of lunch periods to 3 from the current 5.  This will have an important learning impact on our students as students will no longer have “split” classes as they attend 1/2 of a class, then go to lunch, then return to complete their class.

    • The cafeteria will feature a mezzanine level that will include a student run coffee bar, activity and athletic offices and meetings rooms and a walk out green roof area.

    • A greenhouse will be connected to the cafeteria, allowing our Science classes to allow for a hands on experience in applying their learning.

    • A new aquatic center will be part of our new addition at East Leyden.  This facility will include two separate pools; one for competitive swimming and one for diving and beginner swim lessons.  The aquatic center will also feature an elevated seating area.

    • A new preschool and daycare will also complement our new addition.

    • The new addition will be completed by a new fine art wings, bringing our choral and instrumental music rooms and practice rooms together with an additional classroom and multipurpose space.

    • One of the most exciting features of our new addition is the courtyard that the U-shaped addition will create.  This will be a space for students and staff alike to enjoy the outside during the school day.

    • This addition also allows several areas of our current building to be repurposed.

    • A new girls locker room complex will be built adjacent to the East Leyden fieldhouse.  Currently our girls locker room is on the opposite side of the building and has not been updated for several decades.

    • Four new Science labs will be built in the  current location of the girls lockerroom.  This will allow us to complete our transition of all of our Science room at East Leyden to modern learning spaces.

    • The existing East Leyden pool is currently being renovated to create a new wrestling practice room.

    • Additional repurposing will be announced as plans are finalized.
