Leyden awards first Golden Tickets to three new teachers
On August 15, the first day of school, three new Leyden High School District 212 teachers were awarded checks in the amount of $5,000, a signing bonus, as part of the Golden Ticket program. Georgia Thomas, Megan Michorczyk, and Laura Casey are each Leyden graduates who are returning to teach at their alma mater.
“We want our graduates to want to teach here,” said Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak. “The Golden Ticket program is a way for us to build a faculty that mirrors the Leyden community over time. We want our students to see themselves in our teachers and there’s no better way to accomplish that than to actually hire our former students whenever possible.”
Started last year, the Leyden Golden Ticket encourages graduating seniors who are pursuing college studies in education to sign a ceremonial document committing to the field. When they complete their teaching degrees, they are guaranteed an interview at Leyden, and if hired, receive the monetary signing bonus.
