Our New Principal

Patricia Makishima

Patricia Makishima is the new Principal for West Leyden High School. She was born in Brazil and earned her undergraduate degree in English Language and English/American Literature from the Universidade de Sao Paulo. She went on to earn a Masters Degree from Aurora University as well as her ESL/Bilingual endorsement. Patricia fluently speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese. 


Her entire career in education had previously been spent in U-46 where she started as an ESL/Bilingual teacher at Canton Middle School. From there, she spent 7 years at Larkin High School as a teacher, lead teacher, and ESL/Bilingual Department Chair. For the past 12 years, Patricia has been working with their schools from the Central Office as their Coordinator of Dual Language and now English Language Learning. Her leadership, experiences in these roles are too numerous to mention and she brings an absolute wealth of knowledge and experiences to the Leyden district, students, staff, and community.
