Leyden students exhibited over 200 pieces of artwork in the Founders Lounge at the Frick Center at Elmhurst College from January 8 to January 28, 2020. Ten area high schools participated in this exhibit. Leyden students received a total of 19 awards. Two of those awards came with a $2,000 renewal scholarship to Elmhurst College. The skilled art students who won those scholarships are Joshua Uy of East Leyden, for his Digital Design piece titled Vaporware Dreams and Rachel Sanchez of West Leyden for her large mixed media piece of a figure titled Sighting. The exhibit is an impressive array of media and skills.

**IMPORTANT NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR**
Please be aware that the State of Illinois has added NEW immunization requirements for the 2019-20 school year. Any student entering the 12th grade shall show proof of receiving 2 doses of Meningococcal immunization MCV4.
Minimum intervals for administration: The first dose received on or after the 11th birthday; second dose on or after the 16th birthday. The required interval must be at least eight weeks after the first dose. Only one dose is required if the first dose was received at 16 years of age or older. No proof of immunity allowed.
Vaccinations not given at proper intervals will not be considered compliant with the Illinois School Code.
INCOMING FRESHMAN PHYSICALS
By Illinois state law (school code, section 27-8.1), all incoming freshman students must have a physical examination taken within a year prior to entering 9th grade. As approved by District 212 Board of Education, all freshman medical forms are due in the East Leyden High School Health Office by June 3, 2019. After the June 3rd deadline, a progressive scale of late fees will apply for freshman medical forms as follows:

-$30.00 late fee from June 4 through June 30th
-$40.00 late fee from July 1 through July 31st
-$50.00 late fee after August 1st

All late fees will be due and payable no later than Friday, August 5, 2019. Students may not start school until all medical forms are turned in and checked for completion by the school health aide. Keep in mind that a sports physical does not fulfill the requirement for a freshman physical.
Vaccinations not given at proper intervals will not be considered compliant with the Illinois School Code.
Please make your student’s physical examination appointment NOW so that late fees can be avoided. It is getting to be a very busy time of year for doctors’ offices and you must allow time to obtain an appointment.
